Tips On Protecting Homes For National Home Security Month

Tips On Protecting Homes For National Home Security Month

Though some burglars are brave (or stupid) enough to attempt to break into homes in broad daylight, most will chance their arm at night, which is something to be wary of as the days get darker earlier.

A survey by security experts, ADT, appears to show that homeowners are prepared, with 76.5% of respondents claiming to be more conscious of the safety of their property in autumn, but can that be true when burglary rates in many towns and cities are overly high?

Neighbourhood safety can be checked via the postcode checker on the National Home Security Month website, an annual initiative that returns for its 10th year in 2023.

If your neighbourhood isn’t as safe as you hoped it would be, it’s time to strengthen your home security with County’s extensive product line.

Doors

Doors are a thief’s main target in most instances – the ONS has found that 76% of burglaries in England and Wales see a burglary obtain access through a door.

Some try to snap a door lock to enter private spaces and there’s a test you can do to see if your door locks are likely to snap under pressure – just check if they protrude more than the depth of a £1 coin.

In the event of you needing a replacement door, our composite door collection takes some beating for security, supplied with a high security multi point lock, anti-crowbar hinges, and top-of-the-range cylinder locks.

Windows

Further study from the ONS reveals that illicit entries through windows account for 30% of burglaries.

Windows tend to be broken either by being levered open with a chisel, bar or screwdriver or upon the removal of the glazed unit. Both of those strategies are tough to pull off when you have our UPVC extreme windows fitted.

Their 9-point locking system, two high compression bolts, herculean hinges, and internally beaded glazing help them to withstand external force in its different forms. Aluminium windows bought from us are no less secure.

Living Spaces

Another hotspot for break-in attempts, when window and door access fails elsewhere, are home extensions, such as conservatories and orangeries.

All of County’s living spaces are built to modern security standards and we have industry accreditations acknowledging our design and fitting expertise.

Whatever windows and doors we style into our extensions, they always have secure components and mechanisms to make them safe spaces to relax, eat or work in.
