Due to continued growth, we have a self employed position available for an experienced Conservatory and Window Fitter.

Construction/Project Manager - Permanent Position

Starting Salary £35,000 to £40,000 depending on experience

PLUS uncapped bonus scheme

Fully expensed company van and phone

This is a permanent position in a secure company to oversee and manage the small works building department responsible for delivering ground works, brickworks and finishing’s to our new extensions, conservatories and orangeries.

Relieving the MD from his current overseeing role in the department, the manager will take control of a current team of 2. One mainly does the 'taking off' and other internal administration duties of support and the other who mainly visits sites to ensure the works are progressing as well as dealing with day to day issues that arise. Between them recruitment and maintenance of our site teams is managed and growth has demanded the department requires a dedicated responsible manager to assume control for 2020.

We require an experienced Construction/Project Manager to join our high profile, top quality, fast moving and forward-thinking business and head the department, taking over from the MD who currently oversees things.

This is a highly valued, integral role, customer facing, offering variety and an opportunity to promote and protect our quality products and brand.

You must have excellent technical knowledge of small works with the drive, passion and determination to ensure projects run smooth, customers receive excellent quality and service and you are involved in the process from start to finish. You will ensure all projects are completed right first time, deliver a strong focus on high quality standards, health and safety, achieve installation dates and deliver excellent customer satisfaction.

A strong knowledge of the general construction industry is an advantage, technical knowledge of the window and conservatory industry is a help. You will be a strong leader and people manager, providing clear direction with excellent problem solving and planning skills, with the drive to “make it happen”.

You will have a positive outlook and you will be driven to deliver an excellent service to our customers.

Role Responsibilities

  • To be responsible for overseeing the construction of our our New living spaces which include, orangeries, and conservatories bases, brickworks and all works to a finish including electrics, plumbing, plaster and flooring and any landscaping needs;
  • To be responsible for the recruitment and retention of ground workers, bricklayers and all other trades via cost and quality control;
  • To provide excellent communication and customer service whilst working with customers projects;
  • To be responsible for ensuring quality work is always carried out through regular site visits and engagement with the site teams;
  • To Manage the Project department, schedule new and existing works and assist with resolving any issues as and when required;
  • To be responsible for ensuring that all installations deliver a quality product in an efficient, cost effective and timely manner, providing first class customer satisfaction;
  • To be responsible for reviewing contracts, ensuring all external and internal contractors achieve deadlines;
  • To be responsible for scheduling work for our external contractors ensuring that all building work runs smoothly;
  • To be the first point of contact for liaising with all trades to ensure a smooth continuity of work and a first-class operation for customers;
  • To attend site to oversee any issues that may arise with the installations, ensuring health and safety is adhered to, site housekeeping standards are maintained, and the client is satisfied with the installation;
  • Ensure contracts are completed on time and to a high-quality standard
  • To develop excellent working relationships with external and internal stakeholders including customers, suppliers and dealers.

Person Attributes

  • Previous experience in the construction business with a focus on small works and ideally some experience of fenestration and conservatories and orangeries;
  • Excellent and proven planning and organisational skills with the ability bring installations in on completion date;
  • A robust understanding of pricing structures and installation costings for Conservatories.
  • Strong negotiation skills with a focus on achieving budgets and maintaining profitability through your site teams and suppliers.
  • Excellent product knowledge, keeping up to date with industry and new product developments;
  • Strong technical capability, with the ability to understand the theory of installation processes;
  • Good commercial and business acumen;
  • Excellent people management skills, with the ability to provide strong leadership and direction;
  • Excellent IT skills with word, excel expected and Microsoft project (though training will be given in this area if needed);
  • A positive “can do” attitude with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks;
  • A strong communicator with ability to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication;
  • Clean driving license;
  • A self -motivated individual who has a can-do approach to work with the ability to get the job done in the required timescales;
  • A willingness to undertake further training with the ability to implement learning into your daily work.

The position is permanent and available due to growth.

We need to add 3 more full time teams to our current 4 ‘groundwork and brickwork’ teams creating perfect foundations, drainage and brickworks for every County Installation of a conservatory or orangery base and build; through exceptional attitude and attention to detail in both their work and customer management.

Your team, as a minimum must be able to take a project from excavation (including digger ticket) drainage and foundation, through to oversite and brickwork to plate level - as a minimum.

We are not just after groundworkers alone. You must be able to manage the brickworks too.

You will be required to have solid experience in general building, have own tools, transport and be ready to work on site at 7.45am until 16.30pm in general.

We have continuous work for small dedicated teams who can provide:

  • Experience to operate plant and excavate and lay foundations and drainage including soakaways, up to 2m deep if needed.
  • Able to set out and use laser levels to achieve finished levels
  • Able to erect brickwork to high standard
  • Create and Install cavity trays and know what a continuous cavity is and why needed
  • Create openings and support same on acrows etc and install steel lintels and steels for new openings
  • Able to call off materials allocated to a project for when needed
  • Able to understand and work within building regs and to high standards
  • Able to keep sites clean and tidy and safe
  • Recognise site safety is a priority for you and clients
  • Representing our company you must deal with clients in a polite, courteous and professional manner
  • Fully public liability insured with own transport and tools
  • UTR and NI number and proof of permission to work in the UK via citizenship or visa will be required.

The positions are self employed.We provide all major materials, skips etc.

The above is our minimum requirement and most work is within a 25 mile radius of Heathfield in East Sussex.


  • Working self-employed on price work you remain in control of the job under our overall management.
  • No funds needed for materials - we fund this.
  • You order materials as and when you need them so you stay in control.
  • You arrange regulation visits so they happen when you need them.
  • Pay every 2 weeks on pre-arranged pricing.
  • Regular work in sensible areas
  • No more evening and weekend visits chasing quotations that never happen.
  • Able to focus on delivering the clients dream
  • Work on 2 projects to maximise earnings and reduce down time.

You will likely work on 2 base projects at any time once integrated, reducing downtime and increasing earnings and will be paid on the work completed each 2 weeks. A retention is made until the Building manager signs off the works at inspection and NOT when we are paid by the client.


  • We provide fixed prices for each project
  • We include required plant hire and transportation of same.
  • We include sundry item for you to provide and replace small tools and equipment and fixings such as screws, blades and mastic.
  • We pay every 2 weeks based on works achieved and progress made
  • Variations on site that arise will add to your earnings if agreed with us and the client and approved.
  • Ability to offer multi skills would enhance your application, such as paving, carpentry, plastering or plumbing and electrical work (subject to qualifications) this will also increase your earnings from each project.
